Misguided

This is my first chevron quilt. Not too difficult.  But, I decided rows of quilting would be really cute - hum - cute, yes, tedious definitely.  Still stitching rows and have now run out of thread. I just love the elephants marching along on the backing.

Doll Quilt Swap

Back of Quilt

Front of Quilt
On QuiltingBoard . com I joined a swap for July 2013.  You have a theme for the month and the moderator assigns you a swap partner for that month.  The theme for July is Self Portrait/Where You Live.  Since I didn't feel adequate to do a self portrait, I did "Where You Live".  I used sunflower fabric (as the sunflower is the State flower of Kansas).  It was fun doing it and I hope my swap partner liked it.

Weekend Quilting

I kept busy this weekend quilting 3 table runners for our Annual July 4th Family Reunion.  I had fun doing these - simple and using fabric I already had. Can't ask more than that!  :)

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 10

This hymn is another that I remember singing.  It takes me back to my young life and our wonderful church family.  Our church was such an important part of our lives.  I remember telling our friends that we went to church "Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and every night of revival."   :)  I loved our church and close-knit church family.

I used Verna Designs - Peach Faced Lovebirds digital kit (which I noticed I also used on an earlier one).  I really love this kit.

You can read more about the writer and background of this hymn on Patter's site here.

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 9

I love this hymn and singing it brings fond memories of the church and people I grew up in.  This is our Father's world and on my travels from seeing the great Rockies to vast oceans nothing reminds me of that fact as much as the flowers of the field.  They are so small and only last for awhile, but they always seem to be in a state of rejoicing their Maker.  With all that is going on in the world that bring so much turmoil, it reminds me that "although the wrong is oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet."

I took this picture of the flowers in my brother's front yard in Colorado.

You can learn more about this hymn and the writer, Maltbie Babcock, on Patter's blog found here.

On this digital layout, I used a few elements from the iNSD 2010 collab at Scapbook-Bytes.

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 8

I remember singing this hymn many times at church - almost always on Father's Day.  My own father came to my mind as I was thinking about this challenge and I decided to include some photos of him.

The scripture I chose is Hebrews 12:1-2. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him He endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Refrain Written by: James G. Walton
Sts. 1-2 Written by: Frederick William Faber
St. 3 Written by: Anonymous

You can read more about this hymn here on Patter's blog.
The papers and elements I used are from a kit by Laura Burger.

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 7

The hymn for this week's challenge is one that I am not familar with.  It was written by Lucy Ann Bennett, born in Green Farm, Falfield, Gloucestershire, England.  I love the words of this hymn.  It's telling me that I can trust God no matter what.  The scripture I chose is Psalm 62.8.  "Trust in Him at all time, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge."  After the recent bombing in Boston and all the unrest in our world, we need to trust God. He IS our refuge.  Have a blessed day!

I used A+Designs Seaside Dreams in this layout.  The cross is by DBA-His Path.

My daughter does not like winter - which is an understatement. I bought this jelly roll of Riley Blake's Willow collection at the Missouri Star Quilt Company when a friend and I went up there. I thought of Jeanne immediately when I saw it as they were colors that she loves. I wanted to do something simple and used the Strip and Flip tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew. I have called it the Promise of Spring as it starts with the grays of winter, then you see some green coming through, followed by jonquils, and the gorgeous pinks of spring. I hope she enjoys it. Love you Jeanne. You are my spring!

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 4

Hymn #4 Worthy of Worship - You can read about it on Patter's blog here. As I worked on this page, I was listening to the Gaither Group and I couldn't help but think how our God is the King of kings. Right now they are singing "I bowed on my knees and cried Holy". He is definitely worthy of all praise and I want to be sure that I praise him with everything I do. I used a digital collob created for Mye DeLeon and her baby boy who had to undergo heart surgery. Praise God he is home from the hospital and doing well. I also used the cross from DBA In His Path and from that same kit is the wire and ribbon. The fonts I used are Scriptina, Credit Valley, Heavy Heap, and TimesNewRoman. We have had some major snow and expecting more, so I went with something that made me think of spring.

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 3

The Hymn Challenge this week is My Faith Looks Up To Thee. It was written by Ray Palmer. You can read more about it in Patter's blog. I used Feli Designs Winter Romance kit. The two fonts are English and Euphorgenic. The cross is from DBA In His Path. I choose the scripture "For this God is our God for ever and ever; He will be our guide even to the end." Psalm 48:14. It is comforting to know that God will guide us every step of the way. I want to be open to His guidance and allow His Holy Spirit to work in me.

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 2

One of my favorite hymns - It Is Well With My Soul. Words Written by: Horatio Gates Spafford, b. October 20, 1828; d. October 16, 1888. I used a photo for the background that I took on my cruise to Hawaii. The sun was shining through the clouds and it was truly awesome. I used some elements by Designer Laurie Anderson, Heaven's Gate Designs. I also used the same cross I used in the first challenge - I might have to make this a challenge to use it in each one this year. :) The cross is by Designs By Angel - In His Path. The scripture is from John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Hymn-Scripture Challenge 1 (2013)

I'm starting the New Year by once again hoping to follow Patter Cross in her Hymn Challenge. The first hymn is "Lift High the Cross" written by George William Kitchin. I have been struggling with some medical issues and probably a bit of depression thrown in there during 2012. Thankfully I have a wonderful support structure and with God's help and grace will get through this. I did this digital layout using Feli Designs - A Christmas In Gold and Festival of Colour; Designs By Angel - In His Path; Font - Parchment and Credit Valley
